Poet and activist Alberto Baltazar Urista Heredia, known simply as Alurista, visited Austin Community College on October 14, 2010. In this interview, he describes the passion and politics behind his work and describes himself as “a warrior who bears poetry as a weapon.”

The poet, a key figure in the Chicano movement of the ’60s and ’70s, is a poet-in-residence with the Skagit River Poetry Festival. He will be at Skagit Valley College on May 16-17, working with literature classes, and will be interviewed by Gustavo Ramos, on KSVR radio, 91.7 FM, from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. on the 16th.
